Yes, clients can customise risk assessments in terms of methodology (e.g. quantitative/qualitative only), mixed methods, and risk assessment survey design. We provide psychosocial hazard mapping on our survey tools to standards and codes from Australia, the UK, Canada and the ISO 45003 standard. We also provide custom, occupation-specific psychosocial hazards (e.g. parent-teacher relationships for school teachers).

Focus groups work best when there are enough people to represent diverse perspectives, but not too many that not everyone can contribute. We find between 6-12 participants is the ideal amount.

Focus group numbers for psychosocial risk assessment depends on how many workers you have and what pre-existing information you have on their experience of psychosocial hazards. If you don’t know which groups need to be prioritised based on risk, then a good rule of thumb is to invite 10-20% of the entire workforce population to participate. Completing a psychosocial risk assessment survey across the organisation beforehand can reduce the number of focus groups required as they can be deployed just in high-risk groups.

Our team of experts are adept at extracting information from focus quickly. However, the time required will depend on the size of the group, the amount of information known beforehand (e.g. what are the top hazards to discuss), and whether there will be other activities (such as education) incorporated into the time. Most typically, a focus group for psychosocial risk assessment will be 1-2 hours.

Our aim is to make our clients self-sufficient. We offer focus group facilitation training as bespoke, in-house training (delivered in-person or virtual), or via our public ‘Professional Practice in Psychological Health and Safety’ 12-week program. This training is best for health and safety or people and culture/organisational development professionals.
